Stars and Doily Crochet Pattern

Star size: about 10 cm each
Doily size: about 30 cm
STAR
Chain 13 stitches and join with 1 slip stitch to form a ring.
Work into the ring following the crochet diagram.
At the start of each round, replace the first stitch with the indicated number of chains (ch) as shown in the diagram.
Before a single crochet (sc) at the beginning of a round, make 1 extra chain.
Close each round with 1 slip stitch into the first stitch of that round.
If necessary, use slip stitches to move to the correct starting point for the next round.
Work Rounds 1–7 according to the chart:
- In Round 6 (marked pink in the diagram), crochet the individual star points back and forth, following the direction arrows.
- Then, crochet around all points with Round 7 (marked blue) to finish the edge.
DOILY
Crochet 7 stars in total.
Join the stars together as shown in the illustration, sewing them together at the points with 2–3 overcasting stitches each.
FINISHING
Pin the stars or the completed doily to shape,
spray lightly with starch,
and leave to dry completely.

- If the symbols run together at the top, the stitches are crocheted together (= work each stitch until the last loop, then YO and pull through all loops on the hook)
- (This generally describes a decrease, where multiple stitches are started but not completed, and then all remaining loops are closed together with a final yarn over.)
