Connecting bridge:
Attach the yarn at the end of the chain motif (at point A). Then crochet according to Diagram 1 as follows:
Make 1 chain stitch to replace the first slip stitch, 1 long (elongated) chain stitch, 1 chain stitch, 1 long chain stitch, 1 slip stitch in the center double crochet of the next motif — repeat from * to * up to the next motif.
Then work 1 long chain stitch, 1 chain stitch, 1 slip stitch in the center double crochet of the last motif opposite the chain, 1 long chain stitch, 1 slip stitch closing into the chain space between long chain stitches, 1 long chain stitch, 1 slip stitch in the center double crochet of the next motif — repeat to the first motif, finish with 1 long chain stitch, 1 chain stitch, 1 long chain stitch, and 1 slip stitch into the starting chain of the first motif.
Edging pattern:
Attach the yarn to the end of the chain motif (at point B) and crochet according to Diagram 4 in rounds. Continue in pattern rounds and finish as described. Each round begins with 3 chain stitches to replace the first double crochet, and close with 1 slip stitch in the top of the starting chain.
Gauge:
1 motif = about 2.1 cm long and 2.5 cm wide
Connecting bridge = 2 cm wide
Edging = 2.5 cm
Front/Back:
For each piece, make 5 chains of 14 motifs and 2 chains of 43 motifs for the straps. Join all the chains together according to the layout diagram, with both long strips folded in half to form the straps for the front and back.
Finishing:
At the bottom edge of the top, crochet the edging pattern. Along the neckline (the 3 central chains of the front and back), work the edging pattern in rows: attach the yarn at the strap, and in the first row make 1 long chain stitch, then edge the motifs as described. After the last elongated chain stitch of the final motif, make 1 slip stitch at the strap and finish accordingly.
