ASSEMBLY
With a yarn needle, bring together the beginning and end edges of the piece.
Sew chain to chain while gradually stuffing with polyester fiberfill as you go.
Close the seam securely.
Decorate with the felt balls, buttons, sequins, and wired ribbon as desired.
Attach the plastic ring at the top for hanging.

DOUBLE FLOWERS
These flowers are double-layered — you first make the bottom flower, then the top flower.
For the wreath, make two flowers in two shades of red: dark and medium.
BOTTOM FLOWER
Start:
Make a chain of 4 chains, join with 1 slip stitch (sl st) into the first chain to form a ring.
Round 1:
Ch 1, work 9 single crochets (sc) into the ring.
Join with 1 sl st.
Round 2 (petal base):
Ch 3, skip 1 st, 1 sc in next st.
Repeat from * to * 4 more times (you’ll have 5 arches).
Join with 1 sl st into the beginning chain.
Round 3 (petals):
Into each arch work: 1 sc, 5 double crochets (dc), 1 sc.
Repeat in all 5 arches.
Join with 1 sl st in the first stitch of the round.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
(Bottom flower finished — see photo 1.)
TOP FLOWER
Work this flower in one round using the second color.
Fold the bottom flower slightly (as in photo 2) to access the unworked stitches from Round 1.
Insert the hook into one of these free stitches, ch 2, then in the same stitch work 4 dc and 1 sc.
Skip the next free stitch, and in the following one work: 1 sc, 4 dc, 1 sc.
Repeat this 3 more times (for a total of 5 petals).
Join with 1 sl st into the starting chain of the first petal.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
FINISHING
Sew a button in the center of the flower to complete it.

LEAVES
Start:
Make a chain of 7 chains.
Row 1:
Ch 1, work 1 single crochet (sc) in the first chain,
then 1 half double crochet (hdc) in the next chain,
2 double crochets (dc) in each of the next 2 chains,
1 dc in the second-to-last chain,
and 1 sc in the last chain.
Without turning, continue along the opposite side of the foundation chain,
working the same sequence of stitches on that side.
Join with 1 slip stitch (sl st) into the first chain of the base.
Make 6 leaves total, using two shades of green.

HEARTS
Crochet 5 hearts in two different sizes and two shades of red.
Follow the same heart-making technique described earlier.
Work 5 motifs total — some with 2 rounds (small hearts) and others with 3 rounds (larger hearts).

BIRDS
BODY
Start:
With red yarn, chain 4, join with 1 slip stitch (sl st) to form a ring.
Round 1:
Ch 3 (counts as first double crochet), work 7 double crochets (dc) into the center of the ring.
Join, fasten off, and weave in ends.
Round 2:
With dark red yarn, join in the 3rd chain of the turning chain from the previous round.
Ch 3, then work 2 dc in each stitch around.
Join, fasten off, and weave in ends.
BEAK
With antique gold silk thread, crochet a small triangle as follows:
Row 1:
Insert the hook into the 3rd dc of the 2nd round of the body, ch 1, and make 2 single crochets (sc) in the next two base stitches.
Row 2:
Skip the first sc, ch 1, and make 1 sc in the last sc.
Row 3:
Ch 1, make 1 slip stitch (sl st) into the chain of the previous row.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
FINISHING
Glue a sequin for the eye as shown in the image.
Make two birds in total.
