Materials:

  • For 1 potholder: Approx. 50g natural (Fb 502) and approx. 50g brown (Fb 513) Cotton-Lycra yarn (8/4 = 100% cotton, LL = 150 m/50 g) from Coats & Clark.
  • Crochet hook size 3.5-4.0 mm

Basic Pattern: Single crochet (sc) with 1 chain (ch) stitch at the beginning of each row. For color changes, knit the last stitch of the previous color to the point where 2 loops are on the hook, then complete the stitch with the new color.

Gauge: 25 stitches and 27 rows = 10 x 10 cm in single crochet.

Instructions:

Start: With natural yarn, chain 28 + 1 turning chain.

Body: Work in single crochet according to the chart.
When shaping the ear, make a hole for the hanging loop as follows: on the 4th row back in the right ear tip, chain 3, skip 3 stitches, then continue working single crochet.
On the 54th row, work the remaining stitches of the right ear tip and then crochet 1 row around the entire potholder. Crochet as follows: 1 single crochet, 3 chains, skip 1 stitch, then 1 single crochet in each stitch.
For the second ear (left ear), work the same way in the 54th row. Finish the hanging loop by crocheting 1 single crochet, 3 chains, skip 1 stitch, then 1 single crochet in each stitch.

Finishing: Lightly steam the potholder. Embroider the cat’s face with stitch embroidery according to the chart.
