Loop Flower Crochet Potholder Pattern

Size: approx. 23 × 23 cm

Materials:
For 2 potholders, use about 50 g each of the following colors of Lyric 8/8 (100% cotton, 70 m/50 g) from Coats:

  • Yellow (col. 524)
  • Orange (col. 537)
  • Pink (col. 525)
  • Violet (col. 528)
    Crochet hook size 3.5 mm.

Gauge: 20 sts and 20 rows = 10 × 10 cm

Basic Pattern:

Crochet in rounds.
Begin each round with 1 or 3 chains (depending on whether the round starts with a single crochet or a double crochet), and close with 1 slip stitch into the top of the starting chain.
For increases, work 2 stitches into the same stitch as indicated.

Instructions:

With violet, chain 8 and close into a ring with 1 slip stitch.

Round 1: Work 18 double crochets (dc) into the ring.

Round 2: Work 36 dc (2 dc in each stitch).

Round 3: Ch 3, ch 23, 1 sc in next stitch. Repeat this 8 more times (a total of 9 petals).

Round 4: Ch 3, work 1 sc in each of the next 11 chains, 3 sc in the 12th chain (tip of the petal), 1 sc in each of the next 11 chains, 1 sc in next stitch. Repeat this 8 more times.

Round 5 (Yellow): Work 15 sc, 3 sc in tip, 13 sc, repeat 8 times.

Round 6 (Orange): Work 16 sc, 3 sc in tip, 14 sc, repeat 8 times.

Rounds 7–10: Continue in pattern, always working 3 sc in the tip of each petal, and following the color sequence:

  • 2 rounds in pink
  • 1 round in orange
  • 1 round in yellow

In Round 10, at one petal tip, instead of 3 sc, make 10 chains for the hanging loop.

Round 11 (Violet):
Join new yarn in violet at any tip.
Twist each petal slightly to the right to form loops, then work 3 sc into the tip of the loop, 7 sc, 7 sc into the stitches before the next loop tip. Repeat 8 times.
At the tip with the hanging loop, skip the 10 chains and instead work 1 sc into each stitch.

Round 12:
Work 1 sc in each stitch and 3 sc into each tip, crocheting over the 10 chains from the hanging loop (Round 10) and skipping the 3 stitches of that tip underneath.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends and lightly steam block to shape.
