Knots are used to decorate a filet mesh. This crochet technique came from Ireland, where it is traditional.
- Chain 13, yarn over, insert the hook under the chain you just made. Yarn over again and insert the hook into the same stitch. Repeat this step 4 more times (there should now be 9 loops on the hook).
- Yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook. Then make 1 half double crochet (hdc) into the first of the 3 chain stitches.

Twisted Knot
- Pull up one loop — this loop will determine the size of the so-called twisted knot.
- Holding the loop in place, yarn over and move the hook first over the loop, then under it.
- Pull the yarn back, bringing the hook under the loop.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the pulled-up loop is completely wrapped with yarn.
- Yarn over and pull the hook through all the wrapped loops.
- Secure the knot with a single crochet (sc) into the last chain stitch before the twisted knot.
- The twisted knot can be fastened in various ways (see the instructions for the specific samples).
