Construction Overview
The dress is made from square motifs joined together using the mosaic crochet technique. Motifs are assembled into front and back panels, with additional textured edging on each side. Sleeves are worked directly onto the body using post stitches. Optional fringe may be added to the hem.
Instructions
Step 1: Crochet Motifs
- Follow Chart 1 (Mosaic Square Motif) using yellow and black yarn:
- Begin each motif with yellow.
- Work 2 final rounds in black.
- Join motifs as-you-go on the final round of each square.
- Join according to layout (e.g., 5 motifs wide x 7 motifs tall for 35 total motifs).
- Continue until you have two panels:
- Front panel: 17 or 18 motifs
- Back panel: 17 or 18 motifs
(Leave shoulder or neckline motifs off depending on desired shape.)
Step 2: Edge Panels
Using black yarn and Chart 2 (Post Stitch Edging):
- Work 5 cm wide edging on both vertical sides of each panel with relief double crochet stitches (front and back post double crochet).
- This adds texture and width to the dress.
- After edging both panels, sew front and back together at the sides and shoulders.
Step 3: Sleeves
- Work directly onto armhole edges using black yarn.
- Crochet in relief double crochet (post stitches) around the armhole to form a sleeve:
- Width: equal to one motif (≈12 cm)
- Length: 10 cm (adjust as needed)
Step 4: Finishing
- Neckline & Bottom Hem: Optionally finish with a round of single crochet or crab stitch in black.
- Optional Fringe: Add black fringe to the bottom edge of the dress for added flair.
Customization Tips
- Adjust length by adding or removing motif rows.
- Adjust width by changing motif count or hook size.
- Can be worn as a tunic, mini dress, or layered garment.
